I only learned about Enscape at the start of last semester. It was a strange kind of hybrid digital process that often impeded my design development.

Then my professor and I could sit down and draw overtop those images, "redlining" any necessary design modifications. So I’d export from Revit and put trace paper over the images. At that point, professors pretty much wanted images to be printed out rather than displayed on screen. Rather than make the design process easier, Revit simply gives you more time to improve your design earlier. The second year of architectural school I was using Revit on a regular basis. My final visit was checking out the design programs there and architecture just seemed like the perfect fit. I didn't have as much of a passion for engineering but I had a knack for math and knew it would be better pay. My initial visits to Iowa State were spent checking out the engineering program. When it was time for college my dad really wanted to make sure I was aware of the facts of architecture school and the profession: long hours, late nights and other economic realities. Becoming a finalist in the competition was a big confidence booster for me.

And of course I had the advantage of being able to ask my dad technical questions! I ended up using Revit to enter an affordable housing competition during my senior year and the final project turned out really well. It didn't get interesting until we started learning how to use AutoCAD and Revit. We started out using Chief Architect, which in my opinion was a total waste of time.

Now you're ready to nest this Enscape asset family into a new Revit family. When I was a senior in high school I decided to take some design classes. By checking the Shared option all of the Enscape asset and rendering information will pass through when nested in a new Revit family (and eventually rendered in Revit). By default the Shared option (highlighted below left) is unchecked. Open the Enscape Fir tree asset in the Revit family editor. Let's use this Enscape asset as a starting point and create a much more detailed Revit family component in the Revit family editor than possible in Revit alone. Enscape assets are a wonderful starting point that can be quickly and easily embellished in Revit!įor example, there's no Christmas Tree in the Enscape asset library. Fortunately there's a easier way if you're familiar with the Revit family editor. The results are beautiful but for those unfamiliar with liDAR/photogrammetry scanning, Blender™ and required postproduction the process can be intimidating. You could learn how to create a custom asset from scratch. But as much as the asset team is rigorously rushing to create new assets there's never going to be exactly what every team needs for every possible design idea. The Enscape Asset Elves™ have been tirelessly working this year in preparation for all the wonderful assets included with each release of Enscape.
